Mammography

In accordance with the strict regulatory requirements surrounding mammography, Corwin Health Physics provides its highest value services in this modality. Our thorough understanding of both MSQA and ACR accreditation requirements and proficiency with mammography systems of all makes and models, including 3D or Digital Breast Tomography, enables us to provide efficient and effective evaluations that improve image quality and reduce patient doses.

We pride ourselves in our ability to communicate effectively with technologists and medical personnel. If problems are identified during the evaluation, we work closely with technologists and service engineers to identify and solve problems, whenever possible, so that the systems are qualified to pass all tests and provide superior image quality.

During an annual evaluation of a mammography system, the following tests are performed:

  • Mammographic Unit Assembly Evaluation

  • Collimation Assessment

  • Artifact Evaluation

  • kVp Accuracy and Reproducibility

  • Beam Quality Assessment – HVL Measurement

  • Evaluation of System Resolution

  • Automatic Exposure Control (AEC) Function Performance

  • Breast Entrance Exposure, AEC Reproducibility, and Average Grandular Dose

  • Radiation Output Rate

  • Phantom Image Quality Evaluation (workstation and printer)

  • Signal‐To‐Noise Ratio (SNR) and Contrast‐To‐Noise Ratio (CNR) Measurement

  • Viewbox Luminance and Room Illuminance

  • Review Workstation (RWS) Tests

  • Review of Quality Control Program
